Meet the Artist - John Gaskin

  We just wanted to thank John Gaskin for helping with so many projects the past year and is huge part of our capsule with NJ Devils. Thank you for everything John.

John Gaskin

Two amazing daughters with my incredible wife Sam

Where are you from?
I was born outside of Philly, moved to Michigan in first grade, spent 10 years in Portland, OR after college and am now back on the East Coast in Connecticut after a 2 year stint in Philly.

How did you get into skateboarding? Who inspires you on a skateboard?
I was introduced to skateboarding by a new friend in 6th grade.
I'm inspired by my awesome friends in Early Riser Skateboard Club and anyone else having fun on 4 wheels. 

How did you get into art? Who inspires your art? Did you go to school for art, if so where?
Art was always around from as early as I can remember and creating was always encouraged.
I'm influenced and inspired by everything around me, but especially love looking through old books, print ads, and things that were made before computers.
I took a few graphic design classes as part of my advertising degree, but otherwise have no formal training.

What are the similarities between the two?
Skateboarding and art are two things that allow my mind to flow and close out the world. On good days at least! I also love how everyone has their own style no matter what.

How did the shop connect with you?
Growing up with family from Philly, we always spent time down the shore. I love the beach and cherish those memories so Jersey always holds a special place in my heart. NJ's graphics have always been sick and I could tell they cared about the community.
